Plum trees bloom in Conghua
December is when the plum trees in Liuxi River National Forest Park burst into snow-white blossoms.
The blooming trees are a unique attraction in the park, which is located in Conghua district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province. The park is the largest plum blossom appreciation site in Asia, as well as home to the earliest plum blossoms in China each year. The trees themselves were planted in the 1960s.
In middle and late December each year, over 100,000 plum trees bloom with white flowers, forming an eye-catching landscape against a backdrop of clear water and lush mountains.
The plum trees bloom in three stages, from scarce flowering at the bottom branches to major flourishing at the main branches until eventually blooming at the end branches accompanied by green buds and small fruits, indicating the arrival of spring. These stages are known as the Three Stanzas of Plum-blossoms.
This year's first stage has already begun in Conghua. The second stage will start around the end of December, followed by the third in early January next year.
A special cruise route has been made available to tourists so that they can better appreciate the winter blossoms.
