Shimen National Forest Park, located in Conghua district of Guangzhou, has a total area of 2,626.67 hectares, with a forest coverage rate as high as 96.76 percent.

Located 86 kilometers from downtown Guangzhou and 13 km from Conghua Wenquan Town, the park borders the Nankun Mountain Natural Reserve to the east. To the west is the Conghua Hot Spring Scenic Spot, and to the north the Guangzhou Pumped Storage Power Plant and Liuxihe River National Forest Park.

Shimen Park was built on the state-owned Dalingshan Forest Farm established in 1960. Located in a sub-tropical zone with year-long warm climate, it boasts rich animal and plant resources, including 50 plus species of rare trees such as spinulose tree fern; more than 10 endangered species including ametotaxus and Camellia pitardii; and over 20 rare animals including Syrmaticus ellioti, pythons, otters, pangolins, silver pheasants and rasse, a kind of civet.

It now has 16,000 mu(10.66 sq km) of secondary forest – the only such forest in Southern China. Its peak – Tiantang – is the highest in Guangzhou at 1,210 meters above sea level.

There are five sections in the park, namely Tianyuanfengguang(Rural Scenery), Shimen(Stone Gate), Shizao(Stone Stove), Tiantang Peak, and Adventurous Valley. More than 50 sites are available, such as the Towering Stone Gate, Three Gods Meet in Paradise, and Heaven Pool.
