Twenty-six sets of straw artwork and 25 art workshops were displayed at the recently-held campus creative straw arts festival in Conghua district of Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province.

Meanwhile, a drone competition among primary and middle school students in Conghua was held which covered 32 schools in the district. A total of 130 students divided into 65 teams participated in the competition.

The diversified extracurricular activities demonstrated Conghua's efforts in the "1+N" characteristic education program, which is part of the district's overall plan for rural revitalization.

"1"- the construction of farming culture-related projects

In March 2020, the central government issued a guideline on strengthening labor education in colleges and middle and primary schools. Conghua took immediate action and issued guidelines on promoting labor education in all schools in the district. Now, every class in the district's 90 middle and primary schools has one labor education class per week. Students will conduct labor activities at the on-campus labor education base at least once a week. All schools require students to do housework and community service as part of their routines.

Starting 2021, all schools have been engaged in building on-campus farms. Among the 90 schools in the district, 86 schools have on-campus farms and 33 have workshops.

Apart from facility construction, Conghua has also worked to enhance faculty capacity in labor education. Through hiring and post-transfer training, labor education teaching faculty has been expanded. Capacity-building training and programs were provided to enhance the overall labor education capacity.

Furthermore, extensive characteristic labor events have been carried out by fully tapping the rural resources of Conghua. Multiple schools in Conghua have won labor education awards or been named as labor education pilot schools at the municipal level.

"N"- the construction of other featured projects

Following research and exploration, all schools have been proactively cultivating their cultural features and developing featured projects in several areas, including fine arts, sports and science, aiming to build themselves into characteristic education demonstration schools.

2021 saw the establishment of 16 such schools, including Luodong Primary School in carpentry, Liuxi Middle School in Canton Porcelain and Conghua Middle School in bamboo carving and engraving.
