The Hedongbei community of Jiangpu subdistict in Conghua district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, has been striving to improve its living environment and tackle its residents' main issues in past years as part of its efforts in rural revitalization, which has yielded multiple honors and public recognition. 

Adorn an old community with new looks
Established in 2002, the Hedongbei community is located at the north of Jiangpu, and is a typical urban fringe area, neighboring two communities and two villages. 

Old buildings with peeled-off exterior walls, rusty anti-theft nets, uneven roads, a lack of fire passages and entertainment facilities – all the pending issues of the old community were in great need of resolution. Based on field surveys and opinion solicitation, the community took following actions to improve its living environment.

The cement road was upgraded to asphalt road. A piece of wasteland was renovated into a 7,400-square-meter park. Four fitness facilities and children’s entertainment facilities were built.

Exterior walls of some of the community's buildings were repainted with safety handrails installed. Severely damaged walls and anti-theft nets were renovated to ensure safety.

A cultural corridor was also built upon a wasteland to foster a greater cultural atmosphere. 

Intensive management to bring happiness to the people

Via grid management, the community neighborhood committee strives to address residents' needs and mediate neighborhood conflicts with 

enthusiasm. The committee's jobs range from septic tank cleaning and coordinating elevator installation, to mediating neighbors' disputes.

"It is our job to think for the residents and solve problems at the beginning so that the people can achieve the sense of gain, happiness and security," said the head of the neighborhood committee.
