A new citrus variety is being harvested after successful experimentation in Tangtian village of Conghua district in South China's Guangdong province.

Called Hongmeiren, or "red beauty" literally, the new variety was introduced to Conghua three years ago by Cao Yuzong from East China's Zhejiang province, who were attracted by the superior environment in Conghua and settled there to start farming. This year is the first year that their trees have borne fruit. High-volume yields will start next year, the family said.

"You could stab a straw into the fruit and drink the juice out of it," Cao said.

The harvest season for this fruit runs from October through December. The pulp will turn from orange to crimson in December.

Over the years, Conghua has been giving full play to the leading role of agriculture and promoting the growth of quality fruit with an integrated business model that has provided employment and increased incomes for locals.
