Tankou village

Tankou village in Aotou town in Conghua district of Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province, has realized integrated development of environmental protection, agriculture and tourism and achieved socioeconomic prosperity over years of efforts. 

Party building leads grassroots governance

The village committee and the village Party branch solicited opinions from the people on their needs and took tangible measures to serve the people including launching a public service station, a cloud platform on co-construction, co-governance and sharing management and a deliberation hall in a bid to enhance the villagers' autonomy level. 

Volunteer services and award events on positive folkway are also carried out towards a civilized community. 

Improve living environment

The village has been devoting to improving the living environment. Beautification upgrades were made based on the village's conditions and a neat and well-managed green corridor and a cultural square were built. 

Focus was also put on toilet upgrades, sewage treatment and garbage sorting. The village achieved 80 percent of sewage treatment and collection rate. The toilet renovation in the village households is fully completed. And a garbage sorting model of "classified by households, collected by village and transported by district" has been basically established.

Moreover, the village has built a charity library, a basketball court, seven garbage sorting collection sites, over 30 road lamps on the main village road and eight bus waiting stations. The infrastructure of the village is fully upgraded. 

A clear development plan for rural economy

According to the village Party chief Li Jianqiang, the main industry of Tankou lies in planting rice, lychee and longan. The cultivated land in the village is mainly paddy fields supplemented by terraces. The village is located against mountains and facing streams which is ideal for developing eco-sightseeing tourism. Some tourism-related projects are already in process and is expected to increase the village's profile.  

The establishment of Guangzhou 7th thermal power plant in the village provided employment to local villagers.

"Next, Tankou will continue to take the opportunity of building a beautiful village, work on forest landscape, pastoral scenery and rural culture, and develop characteristic rural leisure tourism to achieve a new development paradigm of socioeconomic prosperity,” Li said.
