Fengyuan village is one of the oldest villages in Conghua district of Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province. Located in Jiangpu subdistrict, the village was a settlement of the Ouyang's clan, who migrated southwards from Luling (now in East China's Jiangxi province) more than 800 years ago during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). 

Fengyuan village is 9 square kilometers in size and is located 1.5 kilometers from downtown Conghua. It has a population of 6,630 and a total of 1,536 households.

Since the implementation of the national strategy of rural revitalization, Fengyuan village has been working on promoting overall progress in rural and agricultural affairs and has made comprehensive achievements on infrastructure construction, cultural promotion, and industrial development. 

A better look

To enhance the living environment, the village has been focusing on garbage sorting, sewage treatment and the improvements of the village's appearance. The cement road construction of the Xiaohai River embankment was completed in 2020, which not only relived flood pressure, but has also become a site for outdoor fitness and leisure activities.

The village has also upgraded its lighting system on the main road and the memorial gateway. All the above efforts are designed to elevate people's sense of fulfillment and happiness.

The village attaches great importance to the theoretical building of grassroots Party members, and seizes the opportunity Party history education to help elevate their capabilities to serve the people.

The village focuses on enhancing the work efficiency and service capabilities of the community service center, elects high-quality cadres to serve the people, and collects public opinion to help maintain social harmony. 

While improving the living environment, the village has availed to its ecological and resource advantages and built industries and projects with characteristics that have attracted investment and increased villagers' incomes. 

A culture with history and local characteristics 

Fengyuan is a village with over 800 years of history. It has well preserved sections of the ancient village, with a peripheral length of more than 280 meters and a maximum depth of more than 300 meters. It is home to five registered cultural relic sites at district level.

The village also boasts a characteristic rural culture. The activity Zhicaimen is part of a festival celebration held during the Chinese New Year, and enjoys a national reputation. In recent years, Fengyuan has also organized various cultural activities, such as rural Spring Festival galas, banquets for the elderly, and summer night square dancing events to enrich the villagers' spiritual and cultural life.
