The 16th plenary session of the first Conghua district committee of the Communist Party of China, was held on Aug 16. 

Liu Zonghui, Party secretary of Conghua district in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province, delivered a report on behalf of the standing committee of the CPC Conghua district committee. Deputy Party secretary Zhao Long delivered a keynote speech. 

The main tasks of the session include learning and implementing the spirits of the latest speeches and instructions by the central leadership concerning the development of Guangdong, especially on the development and opening-up of Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone and Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, summarizing the district's work since the beginning of this year, and making plans for major undertakings for the second half of the year by availing of the historical opportunity of the construction of the Hengqin and Qianhai zones and high-quality development along the Pearl River, so as to boost the high-quality construction of "two zones and two valleys", which refers to a national rural vitalization demonstration zone, a national pilot zone of urban-rural integrated development, a green valley and a wisdom valley of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and to achieve a good start of the 14th Five-year Plan (2021-25).

Despite the complex situation, the changes, arduous reforms and development tasks, especially since the resurgence of COVID-19 on May 21, the district has achieved phased results in this year's economic and social development, the session said. 

It emphasized the need to integrate work into the construction of the Hengqin and Qianhai zones, to build a world class landscape corridor along the Liuxi River, and to work around the objectives of "two zones and two valleys". 

For the rest of the year, the session stated that efforts should be made to upgrade and normalize epidemic control and prevention measures, speed up the work on achieving carbon peaking and neutrality goals, further implement the innovation-driven development strategy, improve the urban-rural integrated development mechanism, firmly walk down the road to rural vitalization with integrated urban-rural development, do practical things for people's livelihoods, deepen all-round reforms and prevent and resolve major risks. 

The meeting also emphasized to strengthen the Party's overall leadership and Party construction. It called for all-out efforts in contributing to the construction of Guangzhou in a leading role in the new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way.
