A launch ceremony for the construction of a national-level agricultural complex was held on Nov 26 in Aotou town of Conghua district in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province. Several cooperation agreements between Yuexiu Group, the Conghua district government and other partners were signed at the event.

As a national-level project in Aotou town led by Yuexiu Group, a top 500 Chinese enterprise covering real estates, transportation infrastructure, finance and foods industries, it was the only agricultural complex project in Guangdong that was filed at the Ministry of Finance last May. With a total investment of 700 million yuan ($109.95 million) and a construction period that will last from 2021 through 2023, the project is expected to build villages in Aotou into a comprehensive cultural tourism base with ecological livability and a prosperous dairy industry that will propel urban-rural integration.

Main functions of the agricultural complex:

1 A standardized breeding demonstration area

The demonstration area is based on a current breeding base owned by a local dairy company. The area's breeding capacity will be expanded from 3,500 cows to 6,000 cows, which will make it the largest and most intelligent breeding base in South China.

2 Subtropical fine breed dairy cattle breeding center in South China

With advanced genetic biotechnology as its core driving force, this center will be a key area in maintaining the market competitiveness of the complex, aiming to establish a standardization system for subtropical high-yield dairy cows and become a supply base.

3 A pastoral cultural tourism area

This tourism area's main targets are children, young students and their families, and urban tourists who are interested in learning about agriculture, science and nature. It will mainly focus on the history of cow breeding in South China, environmental protection, and farming experience.

4 Featured pastoral landscapes

A cultural square with an animal husbandry theme will be built to encourage growing livestock feed and corn, and develop agritainment and guesthouse businesses.

5 A circular agriculture demonstration area

Adopting a circular development concept, this area aims to explore an overall solution for the recycling of waste from the planting and breeding industry, and propel the transformation of traditional agriculture into waste-free and low-carbon agriculture to achieve sustainable development.
