The urban management and law enforcement bureau of Conghua district in Guangzhou, Guangdong province held a work meeting on intensifying guidance on garbage sorting on Nov 16, in a bid to boost the work efficiency of local garbage sorting.

The meeting was held to deploy work for the last quarter of 2021, based on work feedback from the second and third quarters. Eight patrol teams were established to inspect all district units for major problems.

The teams conducted surprise checks in some neighborhoods and spotted issues such as poor equipment at temporary garbage collection sites, improper transportation equipment, and overloading of outdoor large-piece waste dumps. Related property management units were required to rectify their work within three working days.

According to the district urban management department, weekly reviews are conducted to ensure the implementation of previous orders. Those who fail the implementation will be handed over to related departments for investigation and punishment in strict accordance with procedures. In early November, 42 domestic garbage-related cases were filed in the district.

Another striking issue is the illegal parking of private cars at garbage dump sites, which brings hurdles for garbage collection and transportation. In response to such problems, weekly law enforcement campaigns will be carried out in all townships and subdistricts to make sure the rectification work will be carried out in strict accordance with the law.
