Conghua holds culinary skills contest
The final round of a Cantonese cuisine culinary skills contest was held on Nov 8 in Conghua district of Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province.
The contest required candidates to make a Cantonese chicken main dish and a Cantonese dessert within 90 minutes. Twenty- one groups out of 69 entered the final round.
Two gold prizes, three silver prizes, five bronze prizes and one prize of excellence were awarded. Another nine awards for signature disserts, signature hot dishes and most creative dishes were given as well.
Aiming to foster Cantonese cuisine chefs with solid skills and innovative spirit, the contest highlighted Conghua's food culture and local flavors. As an agricultural base in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Conghua has vast supplies of premium food ingredients that provide a solid supply chain for Conghua's "Cantonese cuisine chefs" project.
Many of the candidates are trainees of Conghua's training studio for Cantonese cuisine chefs, which was established in September 2018 and the first of its kind in Guangdong.
Since then, Conghua has established a number of training bases for Cantonese cuisine at the provincial and municipal levels where non-profit training is provided to enhance the overall quality of Cantonese cuisine chefs in the region.
The Cantonese cuisine chef project has become an important link in Conghua's rural revitalization by becoming part of the local tourism industry and promoting Cantonese food culture to the general public.
