The ambient air quality in Conghua came top in the first seven months in 2021 among the 11 districts in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province.

The comprehensive ambient air index was 2.99, a year-on-year increase of 15.4 percent. It also saw 200 days up to the standard, an increase of 2 days year-on-year. The proportion of days up to the standard was 93.4 percent, on par with last year.

Affected by subtropical anticyclone weather recently, the district environmental supervision department took pollution response action and strengthened the monitoring of mobile air pollution sources.

Summer in Conghua is scorching hot and the monitoring personnel were carrying out road inspections under the burning sun. "I have been working on environmental protection for years. It is common to work through summer days with my clothes soaked with sweat," one member of staff said. "I am responsible for onsite monitoring and sampling. These days I have been working from morning on motor vehicle exhaust examination, and the supervision and inspection of detection institutions, among other sampling work. I don't usually finish my day of work until after 10 pm."

That is a portrayal of one of thousands of environmental protection workers, whose hard work solidifies the foundation of environmental protection.
