Activate rural e-commerce to enable rural revitalization

Igniting the new engine of e-commerce in rural areas is a key step in implementing the central leadership's deployment, the building of a solid fortress for the 10 livelihood projects, and a winning strategy for empowering rural revitalization in Conghua district of Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province.

At the beginning year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Conghua is pooling its efforts and carrying out the rural e-commerce project. It has conducted e-commerce training at Wenquan town, Jiangpu town, Liangkou town and Aotou town to boost high-quality development of rural revitalization.

Introducing professional teaching team to speed up rural revitalization

The district government introduced professional teaching teams from Guangzhou Industry Trade & Technician College for capacity training on rural e-commerce.

A variety of teaching methods such as expert lectures, trainees' on-site practice and interactive teaching were applied during the e-commerce training. The trainees were prompted to understand the rules, positioning, short video production techniques and delivery of the live streaming platform through case studies on e-commerce platforms such as Taobao and Pinduoduo, with a focus on live broadcasting and short video production of agricultural products. The training would help to improve the overall operation ability of rural e-commerce practitioners in areas such as agricultural product packaging, design, publicity and sales. 

Cultivating professional talents for rural revitalization

Talent is the key in rural revitalization. In order to sell Conghua's high-quality agricultural products, the internet, the internet of things and other information technology need to be used to create an order-based production and marketing model with agricultural products as the link to integrate industrial elements such as production, trading, distribution and finance. The implementation rural e-commerce training project and the development of a series of systematic rural e-commerce training courses in Conghua will make up for the technical weakness of farmers, enable more people to master e-commerce related skills, cultivate more rural e-commerce talents, enable farmers to be more entrepreneurial and employable, form a leading-role effect, and realize win-win development of large-scale industry with local characteristics and sustainability.

Promoting the integration of related industries to draw a new chapter of rural revitalization

As a land of lychee and a lychee production base, Conghua has been striving to give full play to its comparative advantages and expand the online sales channels of lychee, working towards an integrated development of industrial chain, scale and brand.

First, it will secure a smooth channel of live broadcasting and delivery. Signature products like lychee and honey will log onto live broadcasting platforms like Taobao, Pinduoduo and Tiktok to enhance the Conghua brand. Second, the district works to extend its industrial chain. Based on its industrial advantages, it strives to promote the development of agriculture and the agricultural products processing industry, as well as leisure agriculture and rural tourism. It will gradually form a development model of linking primary, secondary and tertiary industries to aid rural revitalization.
