Machang site transformation advances in Zhujiang New Town
The detailed regulatory plan for the Machang site in Tianhe's Zhujiang New Town has been approved. Located in the eastern part of Zhujiang New Town, the site was originally a commercial horse racing venue built in 1992. After operations ceased, it was occupied by automotive, furniture, and dining businesses, becoming an underutilized urban area.
The plan aims to improve land use efficiency and introduce commercial and recreational functions. A green corridor approximately 23 kilometers long will be established, with over 10 hectares of green space integrated into a central park. Underground areas will be developed into multi-level sports facilities.
With access to two subway lines, the project will add 22 public service and sports venues. It will also incorporate business functions within the central park, supporting a mixed-use model that combines work, living, sports, and commerce.
The redevelopment aims to optimize urban space while integrating functional, ecological, and historical elements.
