Kugou drives music's global expansion

On the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia, and at the University of Technology Malaysia, the Indonesian version of Chinese songs can be heard echoing through the air. Kugou Music is bringing Chinese music to the world with a global hit project using algorithms.

On one hand, it is collaborating with overseas singers and creative production teams to adapt Chinese songs into multilingual versions.

The Indonesian version of Then I Met Him (Aku Masih Memikirkanmu) quickly went viral in Indonesia within two weeks of its release, charting on over 10 local mainstream music platform charts and reaching No 6 on Spotify's Global Viral 50. The single's overseas plays surpassed 540 million, with overseas short video exposure exceeding two billion.

On the other hand, Kugou Music has built a global music distribution network with code. The company has created multilingual hits in countries and regions such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia, with a total of 27 songs charting on over 180 overseas charts and cumulative overseas plays exceeding four billion.

Tianhe district, through platforms like the Go-Global Alliance, integrates international market information and brand promotion resources, providing strong support for the global expansion of technology companies like Kugou Music.

Data shows that Tianhe's digital service exports have jumped from $1 billion in 2020 to $2.28 billion in 2024, an increase of over 120 percent in four years.
