Men's modern pentathlon final held in Tianhe

On Sept 21, the men's modern pentathlon final of the 15th National Games took place at the Guangdong Huangcun Sports Training Center in Tianhe district.

Athletes competed in fencing, swimming, equestrian, and laser-run events during a single morning session, demonstrating physical endurance and tactical skill.

In the equestrian segment, Chen Boliang from Hubei province scored 295 points, while Shandong athlete Chen Yan achieved the highest result in fencing. Shanghai representative Li Liuchang recorded the fastest time in the swimming segment.

The competition wrapped up with the laser-run, where Chen Boliang won with a total score of 1,506 points. Liu Zhenfeng from Inner Mongolia made a remarkable comeback from 12th place to take bronze.

Xu Haifeng, China's first Olympic gold medalist, attended and noted that athletes performed to their training level and that coaches had prepared them effectively.

Zhao Jianqing, secretary-general of the China Modern Pentathlon Association, confirmed that this event marked the final national-level modern pentathlon. Future competitions will replace equestrian events with obstacle racing to encourage broader participation among youth and the public.
