The International Vertical Marathon is scheduled to take place on Aug 3 in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, at the Huijin International Finance Center in Tianhe district.

The building stands at a height of 540 meters, consists of 118 floors, and includes a total of 3,026 steps.

In contrast to a traditional marathon, where participants traverse a demanding distance across generally level terrain, a vertical marathon mandates competitors to ascend a flight of stairs within a high-rise building.

Registration for the event is open until 6 pm, July 20. The competition will include 650 participants in the individual category and 150 teams in the relay category, with each team consisting of five members, including at least one female participant.

Exciting prizes are on offer for the winners: individual category champions will receive 2,000 yuan ($279), runners-up 1,500 yuan, and third place 1,200 yuan. In the team relay, the champions will get 2,500 yuan, second place 1,500 yuan, and third place 1,000 yuan.
