Celebrating tradition: Tianhe's annual Mazu parade
In Shipai village of Tianhe district, the annual parade celebrating Mazu's birth, a revered sea goddess, occurred on the 23rd day of the third month in the traditional Chinese calendar, or April 20.
Mazu is held in high esteem in China for her role in safeguarding the lives of fishermen. The tradition of venerating Mazu in Shipai has its origins in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and was designated as a district-level intangible cultural heritage in April 2024.
At 6 am that day, a grand blessing ceremony is held at the Mazu Temple in Shipai. [Photo/WeChat account: tianhefabu]
