The ecological lake at the South China National Botanical Garden recently received major recognition.

It was selected as one of the outstanding examples of its kind, in the second batch of beautiful river and lake projects in Guangzhou for 2024.

The lake, situated in the upper reaches of the Chebei River basin, spans 98,300 square meters, with an average depth of 1.25 meters and a storage capacity of nearly 122,900 cubic meters.

In an effort to continuously enhance its water quality, a renovation project has been initiated to improve the botanical garden's internal drainage units, involving the construction of 3.93 kilometers of new sewage pipes and 1.26 km of rainwater pipes.

By constructing an "underwater forest" and increasing the planting of aquatic plants, the self-purification capacity of the lake is being enhanced, promoting the restoration and stability of the ecosystem.

Initiatives are in progress to create five demonstration zones for relocated protection, set up 15 specialized botanical exhibition gardens, and establish 40 ecological science education sites.

The endeavors aim to foster collaboration in safeguarding the lake's water environment.
