Achievements spotlighted at Tianhe congress

The fifth session of the 10th Tianhe District People's Congress was held on March 7-8, during which the government work report highlighted the achievements of Tianhe in 2024.

Throughout the year, Tianhe achieved a GDP of 661.47 billion yuan ($90.51 billion), ranking among the top six regions nationwide.

A total of 105,000 new business enterprises were established in the district last year, taking the running total to more than 600,000 companies. Additionally, 1,810 new enterprises above the designated size were added, bringing the total to over 10,000 – leading Guangzhou in both new additions and total numbers.

Fixed-asset investment increased by 11.7 percent to 78.56 billion yuan in 2024, while foreign trade volume grew by 8.4 percent, reaching 71.2 billion. The financial sector contributed 51.2 percent to the district's economy, reaching a historic high.

The added value for core industries in the digital economy and the strategic emerging industries represented 21.6 percent and 28.5 percent, respectively, of total GDP.

Last year, Tianhe was recognized as a preferred area for the nighttime economy nationwide, with the Tianhe CBD acclaimed as the country's most influential consumption-led business district.

The district also introduced the country's first modern smart agriculture IP securitization product, "Tianzhi No 1", with 47,000 effective invention patents, ranking first in the city.

Furthermore, new greenways measuring 8.6 kilometers, six new pocket parks, two community parks, and 327 mu (21.8 hectares) of urban green spaces were developed.

Subsidies totaling 260 million yuan were distributed for employment, entrepreneurship, and skills training, with urban employment growth accounting for over a quarter of the city's total.
