On Feb 20, the city's government work report was unveiled during the fifth session of the 16th Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress, mentioning several key development platforms and major projects in Tianhe district.

The report emphasized the progress made in upgrading Tianhe to become a national high-tech zone. Specific mention was made of the progress in building the Tianhe Smart City and the Guangzhou International Financial City.

The Tianhe Smart City, a core node of Guangzhou's sci-tech innovation axis, is a crucial carrier for Tianhe's coordinated development. This year, Tianhe will focus on constructing a modern industrial system to generate over 150 billion yuan ($20.7 billion) in revenue for the Smart City with a growth rate exceeding 10 percent.

Positioned as a hub for "finance + digital economy", the Guangzhou International Financial City has attracted over 60 Fortune 500 financial headquarters. This year, the district will accelerate growth and efficiency, striving for a financial industry value-added exceeding 160 billion yuan and over 300 licensed financial institutions.

The report also mentioned the advancement of technology achievement transformation pilot projects, such as the Wushan-encircled innovation source area in Tianhe, along with strengthening the construction of national digital service and cultural export bases.

In 2018, Tianhe was designated as one of the first national cultural export bases. In 2020, the Tianhe central business district was selected as one of the first 12 national digital service export bases.

Furthermore, the report mentioned promoting green and beautiful ecological construction, accelerating the establishment of a city-park integration system centered around the South China National Botanical Garden.

Tianhe is focusing on creating the "South China National Botanical Garden - Huolu Mountain" ecological green core, transforming its northern area into a green zone where citizens can connect with nature.
