GDP of Tianhe tops $90b in 2024

The GDP of Tianhe district of Guangzhou – the capital of South China's Guangdong province – hit 661.47 billion yuan ($90.51 billion) in 2024, according to a report.

The recent report revealed that the added value of its primary industry last year was 216 million yuan, decreasing by 30.7 percent year-on-year. But in contrast, that of its secondary industry was 56.12 billion yuan, surging 10.3 percent and that of its tertiary industry was 605.13 billion yuan, up 1.5 percent.

Last year, the district's strategic emerging industries achieved 188.76 billion yuan in added value, representing a 6.6 percent gain and accounting for 28.5 percent of its GDP. The added value for core industries in the digital economy was 142.93 billion yuan, up 9.3 percent and representing 21.6 percent of total GDP.

Fixed-asset investment increased by 11.7 percent in 2024, while the volume of foreign trade grew by 8.4 percent. Total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 211.35 billion yuan, making up 19.1 percent of Guangzhou's total.

There were 105,000 new business enterprises established in the district last year, taking the running total to more than 600,000 companies. Additionally, 1,810 new enterprises above the designated size were added, bringing the total to over 10,000 – leading Guangzhou in both new additions and total numbers.

The district also saw the establishment of 1,948 new foreign-funded enterprises, representing a growth of 17.3 percent and ranking it first in Guangzhou.

Furthermore, 28,000 new technology enterprises were set up, accounting for 35.4 percent of the total in Guangzhou.

In terms of scientific and technological achievements, the district received 11 national-level awards, accounting for over 20 percent of Guangdong province's total, as well as 84 awards at the provincial level, representing more than half of Guangzhou's total.
