2 hospitals start construction in Tianhe
Construction on two medical projects - the Sun Yat-sen University Medical Oncology Scientific Center and the Zhuji branch of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University - started in Guangzhou's Tianhe district on Dec 7.
The Sun Yat-sen University Medical Oncology Scientific Center will have a total investment of 3.07 billion yuan ($431.48 million), and its construction period will last approximately 44 months. It will feature a new hospital complex with four underground floors and 15 floors above ground. This project will cover a floorage of 299,740 square meters.
Designed as a third-grade hospital, which ranks at the top of China's three-tier hospital grading system, the center will have 1,100 beds. It is set to become a platform for medical innovation and achievement transformation.

The Zhuji branch of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University will span a combined floor area of some 198,500 sq m, and have 1,000 beds. It will be built into an intelligent third-grade hospital, and have five major emergency centers for chest pain, apoplexy, trauma, critically ill pregnant women, as well as children in critical care.

To date, there are a total of 975 medical and health institutions in Tianhe, with a combined total of 18,491 beds and 9,890 licensed or assistant physicians.
