The Tianhe district lion dance team won first prize in the single's category of the Guangzhou Traditional Lion Dance Invitational, which took place at the Tianhe Sports Center on Dec 2.

More than 410 athletes from the 11 districts in Guangzhou took part in the competition.

Baiyun, Nansha and Panyu districts won the top three positions at the event in terms of total team scores, respectively. The Hairma Group Lion Dance Team from Baiyun district and the Huangge Xiongfeng Hall Lion Dance Sports Club from Nansha district also won the first prize in the competition's single lion category.

The Yagang Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association from Baiyun district got the first prize of the competition's group lion category, as well as the Yuexiu District Martial Arts, Dragon and Lion Dances Troupe and the Caibian Jingcheng Dragon, Lion and Phoenix Dances Sports Federation from Panyu district.

"This year's competition has more teenage participants," said the competition's chief judge. "It shows that the promotion of lion dancing has seen some achievements."
