Construction of the Huizhan West Road tunnel, which will connect Guangzhou's Tianhe and Haizhu districts, is now 20 percent complete.

Additionally, the first batch of immersed tubes for the tunnel is scheduled to be undocked in October.

The tunnel starts at Haizhu's Xingang East Road in the south. It then crosses underneath the fourth-phase of the China Import and Export Fair Complex, Yuejiang Road, the front channel of the Pearl River and Linjiang Avenue. It ends at Tianhe's Yuancun Avenue in the north.

The tunnel will span a length of some 1.24 kilometers, with a designated speed of 40 km per hour.

The tunnel will be a vital part of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Technological Innovation Corridor, as it will be adjacent to Haizhu's Pazhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Pilot Zone, Tianhe's Zhujiang New Town and Guangzhou International Financial City.

It is scheduled to be put into use in 2026. Upon operation, it will further strengthen the connection between key areas on both sides of the Pearl River, relieve the cross-river traffic pressure on the Guangzhou Bridge, Liede Bridge, South China Bridge and Pazhou Bridge, and boost the economic and social development of both districts.
