Tunnel linking Tianhe, Haizhu to open to traffic
The Chebei South Tunnel, which connects Guangzhou's Tianhe and Haizhu districts across the Pearl River, is expected to open to traffic soon.
The project starts at Haizhu's Xingang East Road in the south and ends at the intersection of Tianhe's Huangpu Avenue. It spans a total length of over 2 kilometers, of which the tunnel accounts for 1.55 km.
It will become a strategic development channel that links Guangzhou International Financial City in Tianhe and the Pazhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Pilot Zone in Haizhu.

The tunnel will have three lanes running in each direction and a speed limit of 60 km per hour. After it is put into operation, it will cut the driving time to only three minutes from the current 15 to 30 minutes.
Construction of the project started in 2017, and it applied the same "full-section casting formwork" prefabrication technology as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, becoming the nation's first full-section casting immersed tunnel in an inland river.
