Expansion starts on SCNU high school in Tianhe
A commencement ceremony was carried out on Jan 1 for the expansion of the junior section of the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University (SCNU) in Tianhe district.
The expansion includes the construction of a six-story building, which will add about 1,340 square meters of classrooms and cover a combined floor area of nearly 3,500 sq m.
The second to sixth floors of the building will be equipped with sand table activity rooms, academic meeting rooms, studios, and maker rooms, which will fulfil the school's educational needs in the new era.

According to Yao Xunqi, principal of the school, the junior section of the SCNU Affiliated High School currently has 36 classes with more than 1,400 students. The existing campus has less space for activities and inadequate function rooms, which, to a certain extent, limits the students' activity space and the development of school teaching.
The expansion will improve the educational facilities at the school and allow more students to enroll.
Tianhe has been making efforts to expand the supply of quality educational resources. In the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, the district will make efforts to improve educational quality, create a more balanced educational system, and improve the campus, faculty, technology, and management.
The district plans to add more than 28,000 facilities to public schools in the next five years.
