Tianhe South Street GDP to exceed 70b yuan this year

The 12th Guangzhou municipal congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) kicked off on Dec 26.

Plans to inject new vitality into the old city and strengthen Guangzhou's role as an international business center in the next five years were proposed during the congress.

Tianhe South Street covers an area of 2.08 square kilometers and is the main part of the Tianhe Road Business Circle, the largest business district in South China.

In 2020, Tianhe South Street had a GDP of 64 billion yuan ($9.42 billion), according to Zhang Haibo, secretary of the Tianhe South Street Party working committee. The GDP is expected to exceed 70 billion yuan this year.

Zhang also said that measures should be taken to make full use of advantages of the Tianhe Road Business Circle according to the situation of Tianhe South Street.

"We will take full advantage of the Guangzhou International Shopping Festival, in accordance with the goal of building a world-class landmark business district, vigorously develop the nighttime economy and the tax-exempt economy, build high-quality urban public spaces, and construct a world-class consumption center," said Zhang.
