Tianhe exhibition to commemorate Cantonese Opera legend

A documentary image exhibition is being held in Tianhe district, Guangzhou from Oct 17 to Feb 18, 2022 to commemorate the Cantonese Opera legend Hung Sin-nui (1924-2013).

Hung Sin-nui, born in Guangzhou, was a Cantonese Opera performing artist and the founder of the Hung school performing arts of Cantonese Opera. In her career of more than 70 years, she performed nearly 100 Cantonese Operas and shot nearly 100 films, shaping the artistic images of various women at home and abroad.

The 10-episode documentary will be played at the exhibition. Filming the documentary took three years and contains interviews with about 150 experts as well as Hung's friends and relatives. The crew made field visits to Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and Canada to outline the legend's life from multiple perspectives spanning Cantonese Opera, film, family, and growth.

In addition, the exhibition displays a number of Hung's videos and personal possessions, and offers a variety of interesting interactive devices.

The exhibition is located at the Guangzhou Documentary Center on the negative first floor of the Guangzhou Library. Reservations need to be made through the WeChat account gzlibrary in advance, and the reservation system is available from 9 am to 9 pm. The library is closed on Wednesdays.
