In 2009, the West Tower of the Guangzhou International Finance Center was completed in the town, as the first building with a height of over 400 meters in the city. In the following years, many skyscrapers rose from the ground, including GT Land, Poly Plaza and the Canton East Tower.

In these buildings sit thousands of office staff, for whom it’s convenient to arrange meetings as so many enterprises have established their headquarters in neighboring buildings.

Up to now, over 100 enterprises have built their headquarters in Zhujiang New Town. There are also more than 200 projects that have been invested by Global Fortune 500 companies in the town.

According to the Annual Report on the Development of China’s Central Business District of 2020, Tianhe CBD ranked first in China in 2009 with a GDP of 332.8 billion yuan ($51.36 billion).

The industries of financial services, modern commerce, business services and digital services and more importantly, the people working here, have all greatly contributed to the district’s economic achievements.

Always with a cup of coffee in hand, the office clerks are common to be seen sitting in the buildings and discussing their work with one another.

A professional manager said that, at Tianhe CBD, an ordinary person like him may talk about projects worth hundreds of millions of yuan at any time. The people here are very hardworking and capable, want to demonstrate their skills, and are not deterred by the notion of running in place.
