Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province, is looking to transform into a barrier-free city in the near future, according to the city's disabled persons' federation.
To achieve this goal, Guangzhou will complete barrier-free facilities in major parts of the city and introduce supervision systems.
Guangzhou released a series of regulations on barrier-free environment construction in 2020, requiring that barrier-free facilities should be established for disabled people at all newly-built and rebuilt railway stations, airport terminals and other transport facilities.
According to the regulations, developers should invite representatives of people with disabilities to try out the barrier-free facilities before projects are accepted.
Moreover, Tianhe will be the first district to roll out an accessibility map and navigation system for people with disabilities this year.
Based on thorough investigations, mobile applications will help people with disabilities easily travel in the district.
In 2023, the construction of a barrier-free environment will be expanded to cover the entire city.
