On August 3, the 2022 Fortune Global 500 List was released. A total of 24 companies from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) made the list.
Amongst these GBA companies, 17 are from Guangdong. Shenzhen is home to 10 of these enterprises, ranking first in the GBA in terms of number, followed by Hong Kong (7), Guangzhou (4), Foshan (3), and Zhuhai (3).
This year the List has two newcomers based in Shenzhen: BYD and S.F. Holding, dedicated in motor vehicles and express logistics service respectively.
The enterprises in the list cover a number of sectors, such as electronics and electronic components, manufacturing, Internet and communications, home appliances, banking and finance, biomedicine, infrastructure, and real estate, manufacturing and electronic information in particular.
The combined revenue of the Fortune 500 companies this year was about US$37.8 trillion, a sharp rise of 19.2% over the previous year (the largest increase in history) and equivalent to 2/5 of the 2021 global GDP.
The threshold (minimum sales revenue) to enter the rank jumped from US$24 billion to US$28.6 billion. Meanwhile, with 145 companies on the list, China continues to rank first globally.
