In 2021, the import and export volumeof biomedical products under the supervision of Guangzhou customs amounted to 27.58 billion yuan ($4.35 billion), with a year-on-year growth of 24.5 percent.

Biomedicine is one of the strategic emerging industries in Guangzhou, as well as a key field of scientific and technological innovation in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Guangzhou customs promotes innovative customs supervision systems, such as the "batch import and export" model, to speed up the circulation of goods entering the zone. 

"Thanks to Guangzhou customs'  'one license, many batches' model, our company imported in bonded medicines which worth over 2.3 billion yuan in 2021, with a significant year-on-year increase," said Chen Xiaoping, marketing manager of Sinopharm Holding Guangzhou.

Guangzhou customs communicated with enterprises about biomedical products declaration, arrival time, and other details. It also optimized the supervision process and addressed the customs clearance needs of enterprises.

In 2021, the value of bonded medicines imported and exported in the area supervised by Guangzhou customs exceeded 15.69 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 9.57 percent.
