The import and export volume of Guangzhou's biomedical products climbed by 76.9 percent year-on-year to 4.25 billion yuan ($60.86 million) in the first half of 2020, Guangzhou Customs announced on Aug 3.
The import volume of Guangzhou's biomedical products reached 2.77 billion yuan, up 26 percent year-on-year, while the export volume grew 6.4 times to 1.48 billion yuan.
Guangzhou Customs has deepened its reforms to streamline administration, delegate powers and improve the business environment, further improving customs clearance efficiency to boost the development of Guangzhou's biomedical industry.
With the help of the Southern China Biological Material Entry and Exit Public Service Platform, cargo like biological materials, medicine, medical devices, and testing equipment can finish one-off customs clearance.
A manager surnamed Liu from Guangzhou Jinjing Biological Material Logistics Service Co Ltd said that the overall clearance time for biomedical reagents have shortened from the previous three days to one day, cutting down the cost for areas like clearance, logistics, and storage by over 20 percent.
"More importantly, we can avoid the risk of the inactivation of biomedical reagents while waiting for clearance," added Liu.
Guangzhou Customs has opened green channels for 41 research institutes, colleges and universities, as well as biomedical enterprises that have registered in Guangzhou Customs with good credit standing.
