Nansha district's shipping economy has achieved remarkable results in the first half of this year, with its throughput reaching 11.85 million TEUs, marking an 11.2 percent year-on-year increase.

The volume of sea-rail intermodal transport grew by 27.7 percent, driving foreign trade import and export growth by nearly 20 percent, setting a new development record.

As Guangzhou's millennia-old harbor district, Nansha has thrived by the sea and established itself as an international shipping and logistics hub with its world-class port.

In 2004, Phase I of the Nansha Port area was put into operation, marking Guangzhou Port's transition from a river port to a seaport. Today, Longxue Island boasts a globally leading intelligent container terminal, showcasing the highest level of port intelligence in China.

In 2024, Nansha Port area's container throughput surpassed 20 million TEUs, with foreign trade accounting for 50 percent. Over 200 shipping routes have opened, with foreign trade routes reaching more than 310 ports worldwide. Eight new routes have been added this year, and numerous routes are being developed as part of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Nansha is also investing in strengthening maritime facilities, with the accelerated construction of numerous key projects and the clustering of multiple international shipping leading enterprises.

Against the backdrop of Guangdong's efforts to build a strong marine province, Nansha aims to achieve an annual throughput of over 22 million TEUs at Nansha Port by 2027.
