A team of aquaculture experts from South China Agricultural University recently visited Xuwen county, Zhanjiang, to collaborate on softshell crab farming technology, aiming to assist in establishing a standardized softshell crab breeding and aquaculture industry in the county.
The expert team consists of experts from various fields, who conducted on-site inspections of softshell crab farming and seedling bases in Xuwen county, including Anzhen and Jiaowei towns, focusing on researching the local water quality environment, aquaculture facilities, farming processes, and support needs.

The research revealed that Xuwen county has high seawater salinity and suitable temperatures, making it a natural "maternity ward" for softshell crab breeding.
Nansha has abundant brackish water resources, experience in standardized and intelligent aquaculture, but faces disadvantages in seedling breeding due to insufficient salinity in the water. There are significant differences in the quality of softshell crabs between the two regions in terms of taste, hardness, and fat content, indicating substantial potential for development.
Based on this, the two regions can adapt to local conditions by establishing a softshell crab breeding base in Xuwen and a quality breed conservation base in Nansha, forming a complete path for quality breed selection and breeding, promoting the sustainable development of the softshell crab industry in Nansha.
In the future, the two regions will deepen their cooperation to increase the standardization, scale, and branding strength of the softshell crab industry.
