Designed by the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences and constructed by Huangpu Wenchong, Su Hai No 1 has a total cost of 600 million yuan ($83.58 million).

With a length of 249.8 meters, a farming water capacity of 83,000 cubic meters, a displacement of 132,000 metric tons, and the capability to produce over 8,000 tons of salmon every year, Su Hai No 1 is equipped with four main generator sets, a range of 20,000 nautical miles, and a self-sustaining capability of 90 days.

Unlike traditional fixed deep-sea intelligent net cage farming, Su Hai No 1 features a roaming production characteristic, enabling it to cope with adverse conditions such as typhoons.

The vessel is scheduled to set sail for production operations in the Yellow and Bohai seas by the end of this year. It is anticipated that consumers will have the opportunity to enjoy its farmed salmon during the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival next year. This initiative is projected to generate an annual output value exceeding 600 million yuan. The shipowner has already signed contracts for four similar vessels with Huangpu Wenchong, and it is anticipated that salmon prices are expected to decrease once full production is reached.
