In the first quarter of this year, the planting area and yield of guava in Nansha district increased by 22.6 percent and 27.5 percent respectively compared to the same period last year, showing a promising production and growth trend.
Located at the confluence of fresh and brackish water, Wanqingsha town leverages its fertile organic soil, ample sunlight, and modern smart agricultural techniques to cultivate guava. The Wanqingsha guava has been selected for the national list of high-quality new agricultural products, entering high-end markets such as Hong Kong and Macao, enhancing the reputation of Nansha's agricultural products.
Currently, guava cultivation in Wanqingsha town is showing a trend towards scale, specialization, and distinctiveness, with the industry development becoming more mature. The town cultivates seven varieties of guavas, including three red-fleshed and four white-fleshed varieties. The guava, known for its crispy sweetness and rich nutritional elements, has become a favorite among consumers in the fruit market.
To further boost farmers' confidence and willingness to grow guava, Wanqingsha town has introduced a series of supportive policies in recent years, including technical training, financial subsidies, and seedling support, to alleviate farmers' concerns.
Additionally, they have collaborated to establish a guava doctoral work station, providing comprehensive technical services and guidance from seedling cultivation to quality improvement and efficiency enhancement.
Currently, the guava industry in Wanqingsha town has generated a primary output value of 290 million yuan ($40 million), involving over 5,000 farmers in cultivation, leading to a 12 percent increase in per capita disposable income for rural residents in the town.
