The first direct route from Guangzhou Port to Callao Port in Peru, the COSCO Shipping South America West Coast 3 (WSA3) line, was launched on April 29.
This new route further expands trade pathways between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and South America, propelling regional economy towards higher global market integration.
The new route will deploy 11 vessels operating on a weekly basis, stopping at key ports along the west coast of South America including Manzanillo in Mexico, Callao in Peru, and San Antonio in Chile.
With the opening of this route, sea transport time between Nansha and Peru is expected to be reduced by around 10 days, enhancing the efficiency of import and export cargo turnover and potentially lowering logistics costs for businesses by approximately 20 percent.
The new route is projected to bring an annual increase of over 30,000 containers of international freight throughput to Nansha Port, facilitating more convenient trade cooperation between the Greater Bay Area and Peru.
To date, Guangzhou Port has established 150 sea routes along the Belt and Road. In the first quarter of this year, Nansha Customs oversaw the import and export of more than 1.83 million containers, a 38.4-percent year-on-year rise.
