In Nansha district of Guangzhou – capital of South China's Guangdong province – a prominent eel farming business enterprise recently boosted the marketing of its eels, in a bid to grow its markets both locally and abroad.
Eels cultivated in Nansha are now making their way to potentially huge markets, including Hong Kong and Japan.
Founded in November 2021, the Guangdong Nanshun Agricultural Technology Development Company specializes in eel farming, processing and exports – aiming to create a comprehensive industry supply chain in the district.
Growth has come quickly and by 2024, the company's annual eel production surpassed 2,000 metric tons.
In addition, the company has partnered with over 100 eel farming households in Nansha – offering them technical guidance, market insights and sales channels to bolster the eel farming sector.
"By diversifying agricultural risks, improving the efficiency of fiscal fund utilization and promoting the income growth of eel farmers, we have achieved mutual benefits and win-win cooperation between the company and the farmers," said a group spokesman.
"Nanshun Company primarily specializes in eel farming, with the eels being distributed to markets through avenues like trading companies," he said.
"Presently, our eels have garnered positive reception in countries and regions such as Hong Kong and Japan," the spokesman added.
Moving forward, plans are for the group to build an eel grilling and leisure food processing facility – creating an integrated modern eel industry development model that encompasses production, processing, research and development, trading and marketing.
