On Dec 13, Nansha Port was bustling as it welcomed the first mainland direct shipping of Chilean cherries aboard the Clifford Maersk.

China primarily imports cherries from Chile and New Zealand, with Chile accounting for 90 percent. These cherries hit the market from November to February, catering to demand during the Spring Festival. The arrival of 538 containers, totaling 10,000 metric tons of cherries, marks the first batch of direct winter imports at Nansha Port.

On Dec 14, the first shipment of cherries was unpacked and sold at the fresh market at the Longxue Street Port, attracting many people eager to experience the fresh produce. Apart from cherries, people can also buy imported fruits like durian, coconuts, and local seasonal fruits from Nansha.

A resident of Nansha surnamed Lyu bought four boxes of cherries near the containers. He said that the fresh market at Nansha Port introduces high-quality foreign fruits every year, bringing smiles to the faces of many locals.
