The Nansha district of Guangzhou is home to the biggest tropical ornamental fish breeding base in the country, local media outlets reported on Nov 6.
It's being operated by the Guangzhou Qingqing Natural Agriculture Development Company, which was founded in 2003.
Currently, the total area of the base is 333 mu (22 hectares), with 6,500 fish tanks and 2,300 fishponds.
It has 210 species, with 15 of them having the highest production and sales market share internationally. Of note, the base is further increasing its investment in scientific research and development, as it strives to cultivate unique and world-class ornamental fish species.
Moving forwards, based on Dagang Tropical Ornamental Fish Breeding Base, Nansha plans to build a 1,200-mu ornamental fish industrial park.
It will create the largest aquatic industry cluster in the world, with Nansha at the center and integrating existing related industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Nansha also plans to build China's first ornamental fish theme park and a water-themed ecological park focusing on environmentally friendly wetlands.
