Guangdong's first athletics championship for primary school students was held at the Nansha Tianyuan Campus of Guangzhou No 2 High School from Oct 27 to 29.

Over 100 primary schools from around Guangdong province participated in the competition, including more than 1,300 athletes. Among the participating schools, 11 are from Nansha district.

The competition was divided into two groups, Group A and Group B, with both team and individual events. Group A consisted of 13 events, including the 60-meter sprint, 100-meter sprint, long jump, high jump, shot put (boys, 3 kilogarm), softball (girls, 120 gram), and the mixed 4x100-meter relay. Group B had four events, including short relay and cross jump.

Liang Xiaojing, the gold medalist in the women's 4x100-meter relay at the Hangzhou 19th Asian Games, came to the competition to support the young athletes. Her presence gave the participants the opportunity to interact with their idol up close, igniting their enthusiasm for the competition.

Liang said, "I think this competition is a great stage for the kids to showcase themselves and build confidence. At the same time, I hope to pass on the power of being a role model to them, so that they can fall in love with sports."

"I believe that sports can give people strong self-confidence. Many children nowadays easily become discouraged and lack self-confidence when they face setbacks and failures. In addition, children who have experience in sports competitions tend to be mentally stronger," Liang added.
