The Nansha district of Guangzhou held a fashion show on Oct 15 themed on Gambiered Guangdong gauze, or Xiangyunsha - dubbed "soft gold", a valuable silk fabric dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
It's known for its delicate texture and beautiful embroidery. Originating from Guangdong, it is listed as a State-level intangible cultural heritage item.
The preciousness lies in its far-reaching and detailed manufacturing process, a dyeing and printing technique using silks made from the extracts of plants and minerals.
The fabric is highly regarded for its elegance and has been used for clothing, curtains and other decorative purposes.
It is now becoming a favorite in fashion circles. Designers are turning traditional drapery into uniquely charming clothes by bringing in trendy concepts.
