In the first three quarters of 2023, Guangzhou Port in Nansha district achieved a cumulative export of 258,000 vehicles, representing a year-on-year growth of 56 percent, local media outlets reported on Oct 10.

Guangzhou Port's automotive roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) transportation system is one of its core advantages, and it currently ranks among the top in China in terms of scale and operational capacity.

Guangzhou Port has a well-established integrated transportation system and comprehensive supporting services. Major car shipping companies have set up foreign trade routes at the port to meet the export demands of numerous car manufacturers within and outside Guangdong.

In 2017, the throughput of ro-ro vehicles at Guangzhou Port exceeded 1 million. The port has maintained a throughput of 1.5 million ro-ro vehicles between 2020 and 2022.

Presently, Guangzhou Port has 12 dedicated berths for automotive ro-ro operations and 2 million square meters of vehicle storage yards. Its annual operational capacity exceeds 3 million vehicles, with a one-time storage capacity of over 80,000 vehicles.

This supports the port's goal of becoming a major gateway for automotive exports from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
