At the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Chinese men's water polo team won the silver medal. Both the current team captain, Chen Zhongxian, and the former team captain, Zhang Chufeng, are natives of Guangzhou's Nansha district.

Zhang Chufeng grew up in Nansha's Huangge town, he joined the national team in 2008. Chen Zhongxian is from Hengli town, and was selected for the national team in 2014.

The men's water polo competition of the Asian Games took place from Oct 2 to 7. The Chinese team won five games, even beating the defending champions Kazakhstan in the semifinals. During this match, they displayed an outstanding performance and secured their spot in the final with a total score of 14:13.

Water polo is a relatively niche sport in China. It is a subcategory of swimming that requires high individual skills and team cooperation. Currently, there are only over 1,000 professional male water polo athletes in the country. Zhang and Chen have both been in the national team for over a decade.
