Nansha clinches youth basketball championship

Nansha recently clinched top spot in the 12-13 years age group of the 2023 Guangzhou Youth Basketball Championship, local media outlets reported on Aug 22.

The competition attracted over 500 athletes from 11 districts in Guangzhou, with Nansha district sending a total of 57 athletes to participate.

After five days of intense competition in four different age groups, the young players from Nansha finally made it to the top of their category.

Compared with previous tournaments, this year's competition marked a significant milestone for Nansha, as the district secured a gold medal in the Guangzhou Youth Basketball Championship for the first time.

To further boost the potential of its young athletes, Nansha has adopted an innovative training model. The district government, in collaboration with various primary and secondary schools and training bases, has established 30 youth amateur sports school training sites and seven training bases.

The success of Nansha in the basketball championship reflects the effectiveness of the training model and the dedication of the district's athletes and coaches.

The view is that it has brought recognition to Nansha and also highlights the district's commitment to promoting youth sports and fostering a culture of athleticism.
