After a three-and-a-half-month moratorium, fishing kicked off in the South China Sea on Aug 16 at noon. Fishermen from the Nansha district of Guangzhou were particularly keen to embark on the new season this year with high hopes of great catches.
With the resumption of operations, the variety of seafood in the local market is expected to become much more abundant. Various types of wild-caught fish and shrimp will become available, which is expected to push down the overall prices of seafood.
Due to Nansha's natural geographic advantages, the fishing ports in the district are favored by both local and non-local fishing vessels. Many out-of-town fishing boats choose to trade and anchor there during the fishing season.
