Pony.ai to upgrade autopilot taxi service with Toyota

On Aug 4, Pony.ai signed a cooperation contract with Toyota China Investment and GAC Toyota Motor to support the mass production and large-scale deployment of Robotaxis.

The three parties announced their plan to establish a joint venture company in Nansha before year-end, with a total investment exceeding 1 billion yuan ($139 million).

GAC Toyota will produce electric vehicles that will be equipped with Pony.ai's autonomous driving system and will operate through Pony.ai's Robotaxi service platform.

Tatsuro Ueda, chairman of Toyota Motor (China) Investment, said that the Chinese automotive market is rapidly developing, with a focus on electrification and intelligence.

He added that by providing these autonomous driving services, the new company will contribute to achieving a carbon-neutral society and the vision of "Mobility for All".

Pony.ai, as a leading international autonomous driving company, has already advanced its Robotaxis to the point that they have achieved Level-4 commercial demonstration operation. The company has become an important strategic partner to Toyota in autonomous driving mobility services.

Through this joint venture, Pony.ai will lead the high-quality development of Robotaxis, provide stable autonomous driving mobility services, and contribute to the development of the intelligent connected vehicle industry.
