Guangzhou's Nansha district is building an industrial ecosystem centered on new-generation research and development institutions, local media outlets reported on July 6.

Over 300 health companies are being nurtured and incubated in this district, set to form a precise medical industry ecosystem that will encompass research, production, medicine, and health.

Currently, Nansha has gathered over 1,000 enterprises in the emerging industries of strategic importance, including the Guangdong Aerospace Technology Research Institute (Nansha) and the Guangdong Institute of Intelligent Unmanned Systems (Nansha). The added value of the industries accounts for 37 percent of the regional GDP.

To date, 22 new research and development institutions have settled in Nansha, including four high-level provincial innovation research institutes and 14 provincial new research and development institutions.

In the past year, the number of technology-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises in Nansha has grown by 33 percent, and the number of high-tech enterprises has increased by 21 percent.

Additionally, 25 enterprises have been included in the list of Guangzhou's innovative unicorn companies. This showcases that new research and development institutions support industrial development. Both parties are fostering a new era of collaborative innovation between institutes and enterprises.
